We Deserve Better: Campaigning to be MP for Moray West, Nairn and Strathspey Learn more

Why I want to be the MP for Moray West, Nairn & Strathspey

by neilalexmoray on 4 December, 2023

Since becoming involved in local politics, it’s been one heck of a journey

Looking back, we’ve managed to achieve a lot with the Moray Lib Dems already since I took over as Leader.

I’m not done yet, and that’s why I have an announcement to make

There’s an election coming, and I want to continue to fight for our community

That’s why I am seeking selection as the Scottish Lib Dem candidate for Moray West, Nairn & Strathspey

Here’s more of what I’ve been doing in my local area…

Because of our Moray Lib Dem campaign, we have managed to get Moray Council to commit to inspecting every council home in the area

No family should feel in danger in their own home, and no parent should feel their child is unsafe in a school with dangerous concrete

Time and time again we have raised the issue of sewage monitoring, with none taking place on the rivers we depend on like the River Spey

We still have no idea how much sewage there is in a river our local distilleries depend on

Moray Lib Dems were also the only party that called out the council administration raising council tax in Moray by more than their budget planned for this year

During the cost-of-living crisis, we should not be hitting hard-working families harder

Sport has been a massive part of my life. It’s helped me become the man I am today

But sport in our country is under attack from budget cuts, and facility closures that will prevent participation at all levels

I was very honoured to be asked by Alex Cole-Hamilton in the summer to be the Scottish Lib Dem Sport & Culture Spokesperson

I’m already loving the role, and I will continue to do my very best to promote positive change

The work done by community projects such as Moray Mental Health FC are amazing, but we need more support in our local health practices

In Moray, there is no mental health support workers in any GP services

That is not right in 2023 Scotland, and something needs to change

I will continue to advocate for more mental health support in our community

I’ve already lost a teammate to suicide in the past, and I don’t want to ever experience that again

I’m delighted that after Moray Lib Dems first raised the issue, Moray Council is now consulting on introducing new housing allocation points to survivors of domestic abuse

It’s not over the line yet, but it’s a step in the right direction

If like me you think that we deserve better from our elected officials, get in touch

We don’t know when the General Election will be, every day campaigning counts

Without my family and friends, I would never have considered doing this

Their love and support keep me going, for which I am so grateful

Our politics can be done better, and I want to be as positive as I can be, always

Everything I do, I’ll always try and bring a smile
